With their Brooklyn postcode & a debut EP released on an artfully pop-culture splicing tumblr page, MS MR are yet another boy-on-production/girl-on-vocals duo mixing goth pop & dreamy electro pop Lizzy Plapinger & Max Hershenow (who until recently kept their identities secret) have made a licious indie-pop record.
Album opener 'Hurricane' is trip-hoppy while 'Bones melds booming drums & a doomful melody, 'Fantasy' is a cross between Lana Del Rey & Florence & The Machine love the video where the cheerleaders throw up glitter something strangely beautiful about that, 'Head Is Not My Home' starts a bit like a subdued Round The Twist Theme before heading into Laura Marling at one of her darker, more forceful moments, while 'Think Of You' turns a military drum roll tattoo into a thumping singalong.
The duo's vintage sound is undeniable & much more authentic & charismatic than a number of fellow alt-pop musicians you've probably jammed into, but also unlike their competitors MS MR presents a dreamy, extremley current element to their choons too, leaving an incredibly unique balance that we haven't been able to get out of our heads, Pitchfork awarded their groovy & haunting single 'Hurricane' the 'Best New Track' award & the tracks May 2012 video quickly garnered more than 1.5 million youtube views.
Take my word for it Secondhand Rapture is a licious gem among this seasons album releases & you don't want to miss out.
With hypnotic & mesmerizing hooks like these MS MR need to be on your summer playlist!!!!
